Hasan Ali replaces the injured Naseem Shah in Pakistan's World Cup team

Usama Mir is called up, although Faheem Ashraf is not; Naseem looks to be on a long hiatus.

Hasan Ali has been called up to Pakistan's ODI World Cup team in lieu of the injured Naseem Shah, who is expected to be out for a long time.

Pakistan have also added Usama Mir, who made his ODI debut earlier this year against New Zealand but was not included in the Asia Cup team. Pakistan's pace assault is completed by Shaheen Shah Afridi, Haris Rauf, and Mohammad Wasim, with Mohammad Haris among the reserves. Mohammad Nawaz, a spin bowling allrounder, retains his position in the side, but Faheem Ashraf gets dropped.

Hasan Ali has been named to Pakistan's ODI World Cup squad in place of the injured Naseem Shah, who is anticipated to be sidelined for an extended period of time.

"And with Naseem out, we needed someone who could bowl with the new ball." He bowls well with both old and new balls and works well with others. His presence energizes the team."

"Unfortunately, according to the reports we have from our doctors, we hear Naseem will be out for a longer period of time than just the World Cup," Inzamam stated. "In my opinion, he was the best bowler in the world at the time." It's a setback for Pakistan, and we hope he'll be back soon."

Hasan last appeared in an ODI in June 2022, while his last appearance for Pakistan in any format was in the second Test against New Zealand in Karachi in January of this year.
The naming of Pakistan's World Cup team was delayed by several days as the PCB reflected on a poor Asia Cup campaign in which they finished bottom of the Super Four group after losses to India and Sri Lanka. The board also awaited a second opinion on Naseem's injuries, albeit no good news has been arriving.

According to a statement issued by the PCB on Thursday, chairman Zaka Ashraf met with captain Babar Azam, vice-captain Shadab Khan, technical committee members Misbah-ul-Haq and Mohammad Hafeez, head coach Grant Bradburn, and bowling coach Morne Morkel. While the specifics of the meetings were not disclosed, they occurred amid great speculation about the date and substance of Pakistan's team announcement.

Despite being rated first in One-Day Internationals, Pakistan's road to the World Cup has been bumpy. A crushing defeat to India and an agonizing defeat to Sri Lanka saw them relegated from an Asia Cup in which several travels to Pakistan and Sri Lanka took their toll. Injuries began to build as well, with Naseem and Haris both missing games, as well as Afridi, Agha Salman, and Imam-ul-Haq dealing with niggles and bruises.

Pakistan will begin their World Cup campaign with a warm-up match against New Zealand behind closed doors on September 29, followed by another against Australia on October 3. On October 6, they will face the Netherlands in their opening game of the tournament in Hyderabad.

Pakistan squad for the World Cup: Fakhar Zaman, Imam-ul-Haq, Abdullah Shafique, Babar Azam (capt), Mohammad Rizwan (wk), Saud Shakeel, Iftikhar Ahmed, Agha Salman, Shadab Khan, Usama Mir, Mohammad Nawaz, Shaheen Shah Afridi, Haris Rauf, Mohammad Wasim Jr, Hasan Ali
